BOISE, Idaho—The Arizona State volleyball team (7-5) dropped a four-set match to Boise State (8-4), 18-25, 17-25, 26-24, 22-25, on Saturday at the Bronco Gym, capping both the Boise State Classic and the 2016 non-conference slate.
"This is not how we wanted to finish off the non-conference," head coach Stevie Mussie said. "We had to make some last minute adjustments to our line-up and our athletes struggled with that a little bit. Boise State is a very good team and they were hot at home. We now have to get our people healthy and ready for the grind of a competitive Pac-12 season."
Three Sun Devils recorded double-figure kills, led by senior Cassidy Pickrell's season-high 17. Junior Oluoma Okaro added 15 kills on .464 attacking while senior Maya McClendon tallied 10 kills and added 10 digs for her second double-double of the season.
Also with a double-double was sophomore setter Kylie Pickrell, who added 11 digs to her 33 assists.
Okaro, who was named to the Boise State Classic All-Tournament Team, also led the Sun Devils in blocks for four, while sophomore Carmen Unzue added one solo and three block assists, and K. Pickrell added three more block assists.
For Boise State, Sierra Nobley led the way with 15 kills, while Sabryn Roberts added 14 on .312 attacking and Maddy O'Donnell tallied 11 on .364 attacking. The Broncos also won the blocking battle, 10.0 to 8.0.
Up next, the Sun Devils open the 2016 Pac-12 Conference slate on Wednesday, Sept. 21, taking on rival Arizona at the McKale Center in Tucson at 7 p.m. PT. The match will air on the Pac-12 Network.
ASU's final contest of the 14-match road swing is slated for Saturday, Sept. 24 at Utah at the Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City at 6 p.m. PT/7 p.m. MT. The match against the Utes will be streamed via Utah Utes.com.
