Following a strong showing in 2015-16 in which the Sun Devils finished No. 11 in the nation, the team has their sights set on the No. 1 spot in 2016-17. The future looks bright with several key returners as well as a stellar freshman joining the team.

Freshman Olivia Mehaffey was one of the top recruits and the No. 7 amateur in the world coming to ASU. Notably, the Sun Devils also return 2016 Pac-12 champion sophomore Linnea Strom and senior Monica Vaughn, who was a Second Team All-American and finished the season ranked No. 14 in the nation.

Preseason Rankings: Golfweek ranks ASU No. 2 to start the season, noting the "best 1-2-3 combo" in Strom, Vaughn, and Mehaffey. Individually, Strom and Mehaffey rank No. 6 and No. 8 on Golfweek's preseason list while Mehaffey also makes the Freshman Top-10 at No. 2.

Cancun Bound: Strom and Mehaffey will miss the first week of competition with the Sun Devils to compete in the International Golf Association's World Amateur Team Championships in Riviera Maya, Mexico from Sept. 14-17.

Over 50 countries will be represented and each will compete for their home country – Strom for Sweden and Mehaffey for Ireland.

Tournament #1: The first competition of the season takes ASU to Albuquerque, N.M. for the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational (Sept. 12-13) hosted by the University of New Mexico.  With the absence of Strom and Mehaffey, the Sun Devil lineup will be slightly altered for the first go-around.

Taylor Coleman, Madison Kerley, Roberta Liti, Monica Vaughn, and Sophia Zeeb will compete next week for Arizona State in New Mexico.

The two-day, three-round tournament features three other Pac-12 opponents in Arizona, Washington State, and Colorado as well as Northwestern, who ranked No. 8 in Golfweek's Preseason Top 10.
