TEMPE -- On Thursday, the NCAA announced the qualifying student-athletes for the NCAA West Regional in Lawrence, Kansas, and the Arizona State track and field program was well represented with 13 men and eight women across 12 events.
That group includes two of the Sun Devils' Pac-12 Champions in sprinter Reggie Lewis and thrower Magdalyn Ewen, as well as the men's 4x100 relay.
Lewis is coming off a first-place victory in the 100-meter dash and runner-up finish in 200-meter dash, both of which he will compete in for the Devils. He'll also run anchor for the 4x1 relay squad with Isaiah Underwood, Brandon Hasson and either Jamol James or Ben Trotter. Underwood will compete with Lewis in the men's 100 as well.
In the men's distance events, Bernie Montoya and Ryan Herson qualified in the men's 1,500-meter run after finishing in the top-12 at the Pac-12 Championships this past weekend.
Like Lewis, redshirt junior CJ Albertson will also compete in multiple events, as he'll run in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5,000-meter run.
On the runway, senior Josh Dixon and redshirt junior are two who will be battling closely in the men's triple jump after finishing 5th and 3rd respectively at the Pac-12 meet. Both were in the mix at the top entering the final two jumps.
Thrower Kyle Long will also be participating in two throwing events, representing ASU in the hammer and discus throw.
Almost identically on the women's side, Ewen raises the bar on all the multi-event competitors as she qualified in three of the four throwing events. She'll enter the discus and hammer throw with the fifth-best mark in each, while also throwing in the shot put event with the 15th-best qualifying toss.
Junior LaTroya Franklin will be the only other female competing in multiple events, as she runs in the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash.
