SEATTLE, Wash. -- Day one of the Pac-12 Outdoor Championships featured several highlights for the Arizona State track and field program on Saturday at Husky Track on the campus of the University of Washington.

While the overcast weather and waves of rain hindered some athletes' performances, several Sun Devils weren't phased. The men's 4x100 relay prelims, which featured Jamol James, Isaiah Underwood, Brandon Hasson and Reggie Lewis, broke the Husky Track record with a time of 39.99. They will run in the finals on Sunday.

Also on the men's side, freshman Hudson Keffer shined in his first-ever Pac-12 Championship performance. His first three throws were the best three of any of the 15 competitors through three rounds. Two late throws by each of Oregon's throwers eventually overtook Keffer's best of 71.79m (235-06), but nonetheless the hometown rookie would earn the only ASU podium of the day in third place in front of family and friends.

"I'm very proud of Hudson and his performance today," said throwing coach David Dumble. "Even though he threw further two weeks ago, this was the best meet of his life. All six of his throws were over 69 meters, which is a consistency he's never shown before. Hudson rose to the occasion and almost secured his first Pac-12 Championship. His performance today really shows that he's got a bright future."

Also in the throws, redshirt sophomore Maggie Ewen placed fourth for five points in the women's shot put behind a throw of 15.94m (52-03.75). Leading off the day was redshirt junior Kyle Long in the men's hammer throw, who placed fifth for four points with a toss of 58.56m (192-01).

Three of the men's 4x100 relay team -- James, Lewis and Underwood -- each won their respective heats in the 100-meter dash preliminary events, holding the three best spots entering the final on Sunday. Underwood and Lewis also qualified in the men's 200-meter dash.

In the pit, redshirt junior Keyasia Tibbs picked up five points for the women behind a jump of 6.13m (20-01.50) for fourth place in the women's long jump. In the men's event, senior Josh Dixon and redshirt junior Tim White combined for a solid 1-2 punch for the fourth and fifth place spots for nine points for the men. Dixon hit a new personal best with a jump of 7.40m (24-03.50).

Distance runner Bernie Montoya made his way into the top-10 on ASU's all-time list in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:43.68. He and his teammate Ryan Herson will participate in the finals tomorrow.

Redshirt junior CJ Albertson also ran a new personal best in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase for a fifth-place finish and improved his time in sixth all-time on the ASU record list.
