"I am pleased with our performance today," said head coach Missy Farr-Kaye. "Although we made a few mistakes, we learned a great deal about this golf course. Course strategy is paramount to playing this course well. Tomorrow is an important day to move up the leaderboard and we're ready."
For some perspective on the difficulty of the course, No. 13 Washington finished the day in first place with a 2-under 286 as a team, which breaks the women's college team course record since its renovation in 2010.
As a team, the Devils found success on the par-5's, combining to go three-under as a team for the second-best average in the tournament. They also totaled the second-most birdies of all 18 teams with 17 -- only behind first-place Washington.
While the par-3's appeared to be the kryptonite for ASU on Thursday, freshman Madison Kerley used them to her advantage, shooting two-under on the four holes for the second-best average in the tournament.
The three-day tournament concludes on Saturday with the top six teams and top three individuals not on those teams advancing to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.
