STANFORD, Calif. – Starting right-hander Seth Martinez tossed a complete game and freshman left fielder Tyler Williams was responsible for all three runs as Sun Devil Baseball defeated Stanford, 3-2, on Friday night at Sunken Diamond in Stanford, Calif.

Martinez (6-3) allowed just two runs on six hits and two walks, and struck out three in his ninth quality start of the season. He bookended his second complete game of the season with strikeouts, including a swinging strikeout with the tying run on first base for the final out of the night.

Williams used a pair of singles to drive in the Devils’ first two runs of the game and notch his first career multi-RBI game, and scored the go-ahead run from third in the seventh. Catcher Brian Serven added two hits and scored a run, and second baseman Andrew Snow recorded the eventual game-winning RBI with a sacrifice fly.

A leadoff walk from designated hitter Sebastian Zawada and a single from Serven in the top of the second set the stage for the Williams, who gave the Devils an early one-run with a base hit just past the second baseman’s outstretched glove on the first-base side of the diamond.

The Cardinal (19-13, 7-6) stung Martinez for three hits, including two for extra-bases, and a sacrifice fly across the third and fourth innings to move ahead, 2-1. Martinez issued consecutive two-out walks after Stanford’s sacrifice fly in the fourth and threw a wild pitch that put runners on the corners, but he delivered a swinging strikeout to get out of the jam and end the frame.

Martinez then proceeded to stifle the Cardinal across the final five innings as he retired 14 of the 17 batters he faced and did not allow a runner to reach second base.

Williams drove in the tying run and scored the go-ahead run in the seventh as the Devils moved back ahead, 3-2. Serven led off the frame with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from pinch-hitter Zach Cerbo before he came home on Williams’ second RBI of the night, a base hit to center field. Pinch-hitter Chris Beall and right fielder Gage Canning followed with a single and a walk, respectively, and Snow put ASU on top with a sacrifice fly to left field.
