Santa Cruz, Calif. – The No. 7 Arizona State men’s golf team closed play at the 70th annual Western Intercollegiate, hosted at the par hosted at the par-70, 6616-yard Pasatiempo Golf Club in eighth Wednesday afternoon. Carding a cumulative 54-hole 26-over 1076 (357-351-368) the Sun Devils for the first time over the course of the 2015-16 season finished outside of the top-5 in an event.
Led by individual medalist Maverick McNealy (-16) Stanford took home team honors finishing at 9-under.
Pacing the Maroon and Gold, senior Max Rottluff postied a three-day 2-under 208 to place in fourth. In a round highlighted by immense highs and lows, the reigning Alll-American overcame a series of bogeys and eventually an eight on the par-3 18th, birding the first to garner his second-consecutive top-10 finish.

World Amateur No. 1 Jon Rahm who was named as one of 10 semifinalists to the prestigious Ben Hogan Award Wednesday afternoon, fired a steady even-par 70, to place in eighth (-1), and in turn capture his 10th consecutive top-10 finish. The reigning Ben Hogan recipient who aims to become the first two-time winner in the award’s 26 year history, has now remarkably finished in the top-10 in 23 of 25 events dating back to January of 2015 when accounting for all worldwide tournaments, collegiate, amateur, and professional in which he has competed.
Jared du Toit who entered the round tied for fourth, saw a promising start in which he posted consecutive birdies on 13 and 14, derailed by series of bogeys en route to shooting a 4-over 74. The junior who has made an exceptional mark on the program in his short tenure, finished tied for 12th at even-par.
Rounding out the Sun Devil starting lineup Alberto Sanchez (+12) finished tied for 56th, Tobias Eden closed tied for 71st, and Jino Sohn playing in his first collegiate tournament tied for 73rd.
Up next, the Sun Devils take a two-week hiatus from tournament play in preparation for the Pac-12 Championships hosted in Salt Lake City, Utah Apr. 29-May. 1. Last spring Arizona State placed in third at the event behind a top-5 finish by then senior Broc Johnson.
