Santa Cruz, Calif. – The No. 7 Arizona State men’s golf team sits in ninth-place after one round of play at the 70th annual Western Intercollegiate, hosted at the par-70, 6616-yard Pasatiempo Golf Club.
Carding a cumulative 7-over 367, the Sun Devils are 16 shots back of clubhouse leader Oregon (-9).
Jared du Toit and Max Rottluff are the among the top-10 individuals through 18 holes of play, each closing the afternoon at 3-under 67. Tied for third overall, the pair entered the clubhouse as just 2-of-13 players in the field of 92, to post rounds under-par. After opening play with consecutive birdies on the par-3 8th and par-5 9th, Du Toit overcame a series of bogeys, notching five birdies to just one bogey down the stretch. Rottluff in a similar fashion finished play on a high note. At even-par through 15, the reigning All-American ended his round with three consecutive birdies.
On the season both players have recorded three top-10 finishes respectively.
World Amateur No.1 Jon Rahm collected a 2-over, 72 and is tied for 38th. Rounding out the Sun Devil lineup Senior Alberto Sanchez recorded a 5-over 75, Jino Sohn a 6-over 76, and Tobias Eden an 8-over 78.
