Santa Cruz, Calif. – The No. 7 Arizona State men’s golf team is slated to wrap up regular season play this week at the 70th annual Western Intercollegiate Golf Championship held Apr. 11-13, at the nationally-ranked, par-70, 6616-yard Pasatiempo Golf Club.

Since its inception in 1947, the Sun Devils have captured the tournament’s team title four times (last in 1977). Four players while donning the Maroon include have medaled at the event, with Scott Watkins in 1979 representing the last.

Hosted by San Jose State, the event boasts a quality field, featuring six of the top-25 teams in the country, three of which are in the top-10. Joining the No. 7 Sun Devils will be No. 1 Southern California, No. 9 Stanford, No. 15 California, No. 21 Sand Diego St., No. 25 Washington, Arizona, Hawaii, Oregon, Pepperdine, San Jose St., Texas El Paso, UC Irvine, and UCLA.

Play begins Monday, April 11th with an 8:45 a.m. (PT) shotgun start. Live scoring will be available via Golfstat.com

Led by the All-American senior duo of Jon Rahm and Max Rottluff, the Sun Devil lineup will also feature three-time top-10 finisher Jared du Toit, sophomore Tobias Eden, senior Alberto Sanchez, and freshman Jino Sohn who is set to make his first career tournament start. Nicolo Galletti, winner of the University of Wyoming Southern hosted in the fall, will compete as an individual.

World No. 1 Amateur Jon Rahm will look to continue to build on what has been an historic season for the senior. This past weekend the Barrika Spain native captured his third consecutive victory at the Arizona State hosted Thunderbird Invitational, marking his ninth as a Sun Devil, good for second most in program history. In nine tournament appearances on the season, he has posted nine top-10 finishes, marking the most in collegiate golf. Yet even more remarkable Rahm has finished in the top-10 in 22 of 24 events when accounting for all worldwide tournaments, collegiate, amateur, and professional in which he has competed.

Jared du Toit a transfer from the University of Idaho has played a pivotal role in the Sun Devil rotation throughout the 2015-16 season. Both he and fellow Sun Devil swinger Rottluff have garnered three top-10 finishes. The junior holds the second-best scoring average on the team behind Rahm at 71.48.

As a conglomerate the Sun Devils have excelled on the links this collegiate season. Tim Mickelson’s squad has yet to finish outside of the top-5 in nine tournaments in 2015-16.
