SAN FRANCISCO—Three members of the Arizona State gymnastics team, seniors Taylor Allex and Allie Salas and freshman Katelyn Lentz, were named to the 2016 All-Pac-12 Team, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Salas was named to the All-Around First Team, while Lentz was named to the All-Around Second Team, and Allex was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team for vault. Lentz is one of just three freshman recognized by the conference for their efforts this season.

This marks the first time since 2013 that the Gym Devils have had an honoree named to the All-Pac-12 Team (Kahoku Palafox, 2nd team bars), and the first time since 2003 that ASU has had three total honorees (Maggie Germaine, FX; Ashley Ellsberry, BB; Ashley Kelly (AA).

Since 1993 when the conference started recognizing gymnasts by event, the last Gym Devil prior to Allex to be recognized on vault was Meagan Wright in 1997.

A 2016 NCAA Regional qualifier, Salas led the Gym Devils in the All-Around this year, scoring a career high 39.100 twice. Additionally, Salas’ 39.050 from the Feb. 27 meet at UCLA earned her the first all-around victory of her career. Salas also won the All-Around in ASU’s rivalry meet against Arizona on Feb. 23. This season, Salas scored career highs on beam (9.725) and floor (9.875).

Allex, a two-time NCAA Regional qualifier, has scored each of ASU’s top scores on vault this year, tying her career high of 9.900 four times and hitting 9.875 twice. She also scored each of the top-five scores on floor, including a career high 9.950 in the Gym Devils’ meet against California on Feb. 15.

Lentz competed in the All-Around six times during her first season with the Gym Devils, scoring a career best 38.975 at Stanford on Feb. 8, where she finished second overall. In her first outing on floor, Lentz scored a 9.850, tying for first place in ASU’s season opener on Jan. 8 against Nebraska and Bowling Green. Her two scores of 9.825 on beam are tied for the highest Sun Devil mark this season.

The All-Conference first team consists of the top six all-around competitors, plus the top three competitors in each individual event who are not among the all-around honorees. Scores are determined by regional qualifying score after the Pac-12 Championships.

After the top six all-arounders and the top three student-athletes from each event were named to the first team, a 10-member All-Conference second-team was selected. The same formula used for selecting the first team was used to select the second team.
