SAN DIEGO, CALIF.  – Sun Devils Jon Rahm and Jared du Toit captured top-10 finishes as the No. 6 Arizona State men’s golf team closed play at the 2016 Lamkin San Diego Classic in sole pocession of fourth-place. Unable to capitalize on a second-round lead, the Sun Devils who recorded a final round nine-over 297, finishing a cumulative seven-over, 871 (287-287-297), finished 19-strokes off a wire-to-wire-victory behind No. 12 Texas.

In accessing what has been a remarkable 2015-16 season thus far for World Amatuer No. 1 Rahm, it must be noted that the senior, while accounting for his fifth-place finish Tuesday afternoon, has recorded eight top-10 outings in eight tournaments appearances. Carding a two-under, 214 (72-72-70) the Barrika, Spain native closed six shots off the individual medalist, Beau Hossler of Texas.

Notching yet another top-10 finish for the Maroon and Gold was junior Jared du Toit. Finishing in the eighth spot, Du Toit closed play at one-under, 215 (71-72-72).

Rahm and Du Toit finished as just one-of-five of the field’s 92 participants, to not record a round over-par spanning the tournament’s three 18-hole outings.

Rounding out the Sun Devil starting five Max Rottluff finished tied for 15th at four-over, Alberto Sanchez closed tied for 32nd at nine-over, and Ki Taek Lee concluded play at 12-over in a tie for 41st.

Up next, the Sun Devils take a two week hiatus from tournament play, before hosting the 44th annual ASU Thunderbird Invitational Apr. 2-3 at the par-70 ASU Karsten Golf Course. The Maroon and Gold will look to capture their 17th title in the past 28 years of the event, having most recently garnered the honor in 2015. Jon Rahm will try for a third-consecutive win at the event, a year removed from becoming just the third back-to-back winner in tournament history  (J.J. Spaun/2010-11, Phil Mickelson/91-92).
