SAN DIEGO, CALIF.  – Through two rounds of play at the 2016 Lamkin San Diego Classic hosted at the par-72 San Diego Country Club, the No. 6 Arizona State men’s golf team sits atop the leaderboard at two-under par, 574 (287-287).

Recording cumulative one-under 287s in consecutive 18-holes outings, played during the opening day of the event, the Sun Devils are currently tied with No. 12 Texas.

In contention for the Maroon and Gold heading into the final round of play are Jared du Toit and Max Rottluff. Carding a first round one-under 71, Du Toit overcame a string of bogeys down the stretch in his second outing, tallying birdies on holes No. 16 and 18, en route to a second-round even-par 72. At one-under for the tournament Du Toit sits in a tie for fifth with senior teammate Rottluff. At two-under, 143 (73-70) the reigning First-Team All-American seeks to capture his first individual title of the season.

Seniors Jon Rahm and Alberto Sanchez appear poised for strong finishes entering the final day of the Classic. True to his title of World Amateur No. 1, Rahm threw his hat in the ring firing consecutive rounds of even-par 72, placing him in a tie for 10th. It is important to note that in seven tournament appearances across the 2015-16 season, the senior has yet to finish outside of the top-10.

Sanchez had a fine showing of his own, and sits tied for 17th at three-over. Rounding out the starting-five Junior Ki Taek Lee recorded rounds of three-over 75 and one-over 73 respectively, and sits in a tie for 23rd.

NOTES:

-- Of the 15 teams in the field, Arizona State and Texas are the only competing programs under-par.

-- Of the 92 players participating, Sun Devils Jared du Toit and Max Rottluff are two-of-nine players under-par.

-- The Sun Devils have posted a tournament-best 4.08 par-4 scoring average and second-best 4.63 par-5 average. They have also tallied a second-best 35 birdies.

-- As individuals Sun Devils Du Toit and Rottluff have notched 2.88 par-3 scoring averages, marking the second-best in the field. Rahm is tied for the best par-4 scoring average in the field at 3.85.

ROUND 3 FORMAT: 18-hole stroke-play

FIELD: Co-hosted by San Diego and San Diego State University the tournament boasts a field of three top-25 ranked programs including No. 6 Arizona State, No. 12 Texas, and No. 21 San Diego State. Other participants include Brigham Young University, Cal State University San Marcos, Louisiana Tech, Loyola Marymount University, Middle Tennessee State University, Northern Illinois University, University of Arizona, University of California San Diego, University of Minnesota, University of New Mexico, and Wichita State.

SUN DEVIL LINEUP: Led World Amateur No. 1 Jon Rahm the Arizona State starting five features Jared du Toit, Alberto Sanchez, Max Rottluff, and Ki Taek Lee. Tobias Eden and Nicolo Galletti are competing as individuals.

LAST TIME OUT: The Sun Devils finished in a tie for fourth place in the Southern Highlands Collegiate held Mar. 7-9. Senior Jon Rahm who is yet to finish outside of the top-10 in seven tournament appearances over the course of the 2015-16 season, paced the Sun Devils firing an even-par 216, to place tied for fifth.
