LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The No. 6 Arizona State men’s golf team finds itself seven strokes off leader No. 4 Southern California heading into the final round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate, hosted at the par-72, 7374-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club. Entering the day in the top spot, the Sun Devils carded a cumulative second round even-par, 288, placing them at three-over through two rounds of play.
Southern California recorded a second-round-best, eight-under, 280 allotting the Trojans a seven-shot lead heading into the final day.
Sun Devil senior Jon Rahm remains tied atop the leaderboard at eight-under par for the tournament. After opening his round with consecutive birdies on the par-4, 1st and the par-3, 2nd, the World Amateur No.1 would close the front-nine over-par double-bogeying the 3rd, before bogeying the 7th. At the turn the Sun Devil swinger would recover. Opening the back-nine to the tune of three consecutive birdies, he would eventually cap off his round with one final birdie on the par-5 18th placing him in a first-place tie with co-leader Sean Crocker of Southern California.
Sun Devil junior Jared du Toit moved up 13 spots on the individual leaderboard from T34 to T21 firing a one-under 71. He seeks to garner his third consecutive top-10 finish.
Senior Alberto Sanchez who entered the day T4 was unable to capitalize on a strong first round two-under, 70, finishing the round at five-over, 70. Currently he sits at three-over through two rounds and enters today’s round T30.
Rounding out the Sun Devil starting five, Max Rottluff (T48/+7) and Ki Taek Lee (T65, +12) each closed the round at two-over, 74 respectively.
Play concludes at the Southern Highlands Invitational beginning at 9 a.m./MT. The Sun Devil paired with No .4 Southern California and No. 11 Texas are slated to tee off 10:40 a.m./MT. Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com.
