La quinta, calif. – What an addition transfer Jared du Toit has been for the ninth-ranked Arizona State men’s golf team. Firing a first-round three-under, 68 the British Columbia native finds himself tied for third, just two shots off the lead at the 16th rendering of the Prestige at PGA WEST.
At even-par thru nine. Du Toit carded birdies at the par-5 12th, par-3 13th, and par-5 16th, to place him in contention heading into the final 36 holes, spanning the next two days.
Also throwing his hat in the ring was Senior Jon Rahm. The World Amateur No.1 who has yet to finish outside of the top-10 in five events over the course of the fall and spring seasons, posted a one-under, 70, placing him in a tie for 12th-place.
Du Toit and Rahm were just two-of-12 players in the field of 81 to post rounds under-par.
Arizona State as a whole recorded a cumulative day-one, three-over, 287. Currently the Sun Devils sit in fourth-place ten shots off the leader, No. 28 LSU.
Rounding out the Sun Devil starting five was La Quinta native Ki Taek Lee (+3/T32), senior Alberto Sanchez (+4/T42), and sophomore Tobias Eden (+6, T60).
The Maroon and Gold resume play Tuesday beginning at 8:20 a.m. PT/ 9:20 a.m. MT, paired with No.6 Duke and Pepperdine. Live scoring is available via Golfstat.com.
