SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.—Arizona State wrestling’s All-American Blake Stauffer became the 24th Sun Devil in program history to reach the 100 win milestone on Saturday night with a 16-3 major decision over Cal Poly’s Mitchell Woods at the Mott Athletics Center.
The four team points helped ASU (11-7, 2-2 Pac-12) to a 24-12 victory over the Mustangs (2-9, 0-4 Pac-12), with the Sun Devils taking seven of the 10 bouts.
42 of Stauffer’s 100 victories came in the form of bonus-point wins, with 21 major decisions, 13 tech falls, and eight pins. Stauffer has never given up bonus points in his Sun Devil career. His major decisions sit at No. 9 all-time, tied with Anthony Robles, and his tech falls are No. 4 all-time at ASU.
Against the Mustangs, senior Ares Carpio got ASU on the board in the opening bout of the night with a 10-3 win over David Gonzalez at 125 pounds, before junior Dalton Brady posted a 23-11 major decision over Glenn Farina at 133.
At 141, Robbie Mathers followed with a 20-7 major decision over Connor Pollock, while Matt Kraus gave ASU the 14-0 advantage with an 8-2 decision at 149 pounds. The win is Kraus’ 77th in his career.
At 165, Jacen Petersen posted a 2-0 win over Blake Kastl, and after Stauffer’s win, ASU capped the night with freshman Tanner Hall defeating Spencer Empey in tiebreaker action, 4-3, at heavyweight.
