TEMPE – The No. 6 Arizona State University wrapped up the opening weekend of competition with a sweep of two exhibition games over the No. 14 Indiana Hoosiers to conclude the ASU Invitational.
Playing under an adjusted set of rules that allowed unlimited exclusions and awarding each team with three 6-on-5 possessions for every real-time goal scored, the Sun Devils as a team took advantage on the offensive end.
Taylor Bertrand scored four goals – including three in the first game – and joined PJ Allin, Daisy Carter, Maud Koopman and Rosie Huck as the others netting four goals and each had a hat trick in one of the games.
Stephanie Contreras scored three times for the Sun Devils while Julia Reyes, Claudia Abad and Abbey Kerth also got on the board.
Ao Gao, Kayla Casas and Lena Mihailovic each had five goals over the two games on Sunday while every single Sun Devil field player scored at least one goal. Mihailovic led the way with seven assists while freshman Reyes also spread the wealth with five assists.
Koopman remained the defensive force she’s been all weekend, leading the team with four steals on the day.
Playing in just a half of action in each game, Mia Rycraw finished with 13 saves and eight goals allowed while Taylor Barrett saw her first action of the weekend and stopped nine shots while allowing just four goals in her four quarters.
The Sun Devils take a 2-0 record in official games into the bye weekend after yesterday’s sweep over the Hoosiers and will return to action in two weekends at the Triton Invitational in San Diego.
