PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico. – What can't Jon Rahm do? After posting four top-10 finishes while garnering his eighth-career tournament win at the Tavistock Invitational this fall season, the World No. 1 Amateur recorded his second-career top-10 finish in a PGA Tour Event at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba, in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
Rahm the only amateur in a field of 132, carded a 54-hole, 11-under, 273 (69-68-66-70), earning the Sun Devil senior a tie for 10th. The three-time All-American shot under-par in all four rounds of the event.
Rahm recorded an eagle and eight birdies, to just five bogeys in the first two rounds of play. The Sun Devil swinger followed with an exceptional third round, posting six birdies, finishing the round at five-under, 66. Rahm's most impressive feat of the tournament came in the final round, as the Sun Devil who opened play with two-consecutive double-bogeys rallied, notching six birdies to just one bogey, to finish with a one-under 70.
Rahm now has two top-10 PGA finishes to his credit. Jan. 29-Feb. 2, Rahm clad in a #42 Pat Tillman Jersey fired a 54-hole, 12-under, 272, in front of an eccentric crowd at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, earning him a fifth-place finish. Rahm is the just the second amateur golfer since Justin Rose tied for fourth at the 1998 British Open, to accomplish a top-five finish in a PGA Tour event.
By virtue of earning the McCormack Medal in August, granted to the No. 1 male in WAGR, Rahm is slated to compete in the 2016 U.S. Open and Open Championship.
The Sun Devils collectively return to action Feb. 4-6 at the Waikoloa Invitational, In Waikoloa Hawaii.
