FAIRFAX, CALIF. – Led by a late charge from senior Jon Rahm, the Arizona State men’s golf team closed play at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational tied for second, carding a cumulative 11-under 273, finishing the tournament at 33-under 819 (277-269-273). The Sun Devils have now notched two-consecutive second-place finishes and have finished third or better in three events during the fall season.
Rahm who sat at even-par thru nine, recorded birdies on 12 and 13, before closing the round with three-consecutive. The Barrika, Spain native finished the day with a five-under 66, and closed the tournament at 16-under 197. Rahm’s effort was good enough to earn the senior a second-place finish, marking his third top-10 finish of the season.
Jared du Toit continues to impress early in his Sun Devil career. The junior closed the tournament tied for eighth after carding a 3-under 68 in round three. Du Toit notched four birdies to one bogey on the round, all coming off the back-nine. Senior Max Rottluff also had a strong showing finishing the event tied for fourteenth, posting an 8-under 205 (68-68-69) for the tournament.
Sun Devil swingers Nicolo Galletti and Alberto Sanchez each played well in the final round with Galletti carding a 1-under 70 and Sanchez an even-par 71. Galletti closed the tournament tied for 44th, while Sanchez finished at 55th.
Up next the Sun Devils close the fall season Oct. 18-20 in Isleworth, Florida at the Tavistock Invitational.
