FAIRFAX, CALIF. – After a long day comprised of two rounds and 36-holes of golf, Sun Devil swinger Jon Rahm sits in contention at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational. Rahm opened the day firing a three-under 68, finishing the back-nine with four birdies. The senior then recorded the third-lowest score of his Sun Devil career as well as the lowest of round two carding an 8-under 63. Rahm kicked off a bogey-free round two with four consecutive birdies, culminating with an eagle on the par-5 14th. Currently the Barrika, Spain native sits just two shots off the lead, tied for second. Rahm is just one win away from tying Sun Devil legend Billy Mayfair’s eight career victories mark, which ranks second in Arizona State men’s golf history.
Led by Rahm, the Sun Devils recorded a cumulative 36-hole, 22-under 546 (277-269). The team heads into the final round of action in fourth place, trailing the leader by eight strokes.
Junior Jared du Toit had an impressive day recording rounds of 67 and 68 respectively. At 7-under for the tournament du Toit sits in contention, tied for eighth.
Back from competing at the Porsche European Open, senior Max Rottluff carded two consecutive rounds at 3-under 68. Rottluff at 6-under for the tournament is currently tied for fifteenth.
Final round action of the Alister MacKenzie kicks off at 7:45 MST. Live scoring and additional tournament-related information will once again be provided via Golfstat.com.
