TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State women's golf team travels to Chicago for the Windy City Classic starting on Monday, Oct. 5 for their second tournament of the season.
Head coach Missy Farr-Kaye expects big things from the women, especially after an impressive performance on the last day of the Golfweek Conference Challenge last week.
"I think this team is ready to compete this week and we learned from our mistakes last week," Farr-Kaye said. "We finished so strong that I'm confident that we're going to continue on from where we were last week."
The Sun Devils wrapped up the final day of their last tournament nine-under par for a third-place finish.
Freshman Madison Kerley showed composure and great poise in her first tournament, shooting a four-over 220 through three rounds at the Golfweek Conference Challenge. Farr-Kaye hopes to see her take another step in her second tournament and continue to help the team.
"Madison played tremendously for her first time out as a college freshman," Farr-Kaye said. "I'm very impressed by her composure on the golf course and her desire to compete and be apart of a team. She adds so much to our team."
Junior Monica Vaughn's five-under 67 on the final day of last week's tournament tied for the best round of the week in Colorado, and she continues to pace the lady Sun Devils on the course.
"Monica continues to grow daily as a golfer, as a young lady, and leader on our team," Farr-Kaye said. "And I'm so excited to continue to watch her play and see how she does."
Her one-under 215 in Vail was good enough for a second-place tie last week.
Golfweek's No. 9-ranked collegiate women's golfer, freshman Linnea Strom, will aim to find a groove in her second-ever tournament as a Sun Devil. She was very consistent in Colorado and shoots to prove she can keep that consistency to help her fellow teammates.
Despite the chilly weather in Chicago, ASU and Farr-Kaye are glad to be back on the green grass and are determined to continue their success at the Windy City Classic.
"We're excited to be back competing again in a tournament we've never played in," Farr-Kaye said. "The weather is a little chilly but we're looking forward to it. We're prepared for anything that comes our way."
