VALENTINE, NE. – After entering the final round of play at the Jackrabbit/South Dakota State in sixth-place the Arizona State managed to finish second in a field of 14 teams carding a seven-under par 281. Collectively the Sun Devils posted a three-day total 1-over 865 (304-280-281).
Senior Alberto Sanchez once again led the way for the Sun Devils closing the tournament with a 4-under 72, finishing at 3-under 218 (76-69-68), four shots off the individual medalist. Sanchez notched his second-consecutive top-10 finish in two weeks placing tied for eighth. With two rounds in the 60s in this week’s event and two in last week’s Olympia Fields Invitational, Sanchez has already matched his mark of four rounds in the 60s accumulated during the 2014-15 season.
Jon Rahm managed to piece together a solid round carding a two-under 70. After beginning the day with a double-bogey on No. 2, the senior tallied birdies on 6, 13, 15, and 17. The reigning Ben Hogan Award winner closed the event at 2-under par 214 (75-69-70) finishing in 10th place.
Newcomer Jared du Toit managed his first top-20 finish as a Sun Devil closing the tournament at two-over par 218 (76-69-73) finishing tied for 14th.
Sophomore Tobias Eden closed at 7-over par 223 (77-77-73) tied for 29th, while junior Nicolo Galletti posted his best round of the tournament carding a two-under 70.
Up next to the Sun Devils travel to Fairfax, California Oct. 12-13 for the Allister MacKenzie invitational where senior Max Rottluff looks to repeat as an individual medalist after winning the event during the 2014-15 season.
