WOLCOTT, Colo. - Despite entering the final round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge in the top five, women's golf head coach Missy Farr-Kaye expected more from her ladies after a 17-over 305 on day two.

Farr-Kaye asked for more and she received, as the Sun Devils shot a combined nine-under par 279 -- the second-lowest team score of the entire three-day, 17-team tournament -- to move up two spots for a third-place finish.

"I am very happy and proud of this resilience in this young ASU women's golf team today," Farr-Kaye said. "They went out and played with heart and came back fighting after having two disappointing days."

Junior Monica Vaughn's five-under 67 tied both the lowest score of the final day and the lowest of the entire tournament as well. She moved up 10 spots and finished the tournament tied for 2nd at one-under par (215).

Sophomore Sophia Zeeb bounced back on the final day, shooting a two-under 70 and reaching as low as five-under during the day.

But freshman Madison Kerley made a strong impact in her first collegiate tournament and on the final day, closing out with a three-under 69 for a combined four-over 220. That put her in a tie for 8th place.

Fellow collegiate rookie Linnea Strom kept a consistent pace across the three days, turning in 76-75-76 in her first tournament. Her 11-over 227 put her in a tie for 33rd.

Sophomore Roberta Liti had her final round count towards the Devils' final round, playing a consistent round of one-over 73 with 15 pars, two bogeys and a birdie.

"Everybody had great things today and I think they just decided they were going to go out and play hard," Farr-Kaye said. "They were not happy with the previous two days and I think the golf course got easier every day."

The Sun Devils don't get much time before their next tournament, as they head east for the two-day Windy City Classic in Wilmette, Ill. on Oct. 5 and 6.
