WOLCOTT, Colo. – The Sun Devils’ first day of the Golfweek Conference Challenge saw ebbs and flows at Red Sky Golf Club in Wolcott, Colo.

Through the first round, head coach Missy Farr-Kaye’s ladies combined for an 11-over 299 on the par-72, 6,261-yard course.

Freshmen Linnea Strom – the No. 9 ranked collegiate golfer in the country – and Phoenix-native Madison Kerley paced the lady Devils early on, combining for six birdies and one bogey through the first seven holes.

T24.  L. Strom 76 - - 76
T44.  R. Liti 78 - - 78

While the first-tournament jitters didn’t seem to affect either of them early on, Kerley ran into a little trouble on the back nine, going bogey-double bogey-bogey. She bounced back with back-to-back birdies and finished the day with a one-over 73 and tied for ninth.

Strom finished her day at four over (76) and tied for 24th.

Junior Monica Vaughn would have finished even par for the day if it wasn’t for a three-over on the par-4 8th. She settled down on the back nine, shooting even par and ending her day with a three-over 75.

Sophomore Sophia Zeeb played a well-balanced round other than a similar three-over on the 8th like her teammate. Zeeb will feed off the birdie to end her three-over 75 on the first day.

Round two will start Tuesday morning with the first Sun Devil -- sophomore Roberta Liti -- teeing off at 10:45 a.m. MST.
