OLYMPIA FIELDS, III. – Sun Devil senior Alberto Sanchez notched a third-place finish helping to lead the Arizona State men’s golf team to a third-place Sunday in the Fighting Illini/Olympia Fields Invitational held at Olympia Fields Country Club in Chicago, Illinois.
Sanchez closed the tournament with a 1-under 69 to finish at 3-under 207, four behind individual medalist Maverick McNealey of Stanford. Sanchez’s third-place finish marks his best finish as a Sun Devil as well as the senior’s second career top-5 finish.
The Sun Devils collectively accumulated their best round of the tournament Sunday posting a 2-over 855 propelling the squad to a third-place finish in a field of 15. In total the team carded a three-day 15-over par 855 (285-288-282).
World No. 1 Amateur Jon Rahm continues to roll and recorded his 22nd top-10 finish a Sun Devil. The senior carded four birdies in the final round finishing with a 2-under 68 on the day. Notching a 1-over 211 (69-74-68) for the tournament was good enough to earn Rahm a ninth-place finish.
Junior Jared du Toit carded a 72 on the day finishing tied for 27th. Tobias Eden closed at 11-over 221 (75-73-73) tied for 38th, while senior Max Rottluff finished shooting 223 (75-72-76) over the three-day event.
Reigning Pac-12 coach of the year Tim Mickelson and the fourth-ranked Arizona State men’s golf team return to action Sep. 26-28 at the South Dakota State Invitational.
