OLYMPIA FIELDS, ILL. -- The fourth-ranked Arizona State Men’s golf team closed day one of the Fighting Illini/Olympia Fields Invitational in fifth place. Thru 17-18 the Sun Devils finished at 5-over par and will resume first round play at 6 a.m. MST, with Jon Rahm slated to complete the final hole of his first round.

? ASUmensgolf (@asumensgolf) September 19, 2015Senior Alberto Sanchez led the way for the Sun Devils posting a first round 68 (2-under par). The Nogales, Arizona native notched four birdies on the round, good enough to place him tied for fourth.
Reigning Ben Hogan Player of the Year award winner Jon Rahm also had a strong showing and is 1-under thru 17. Rahm is currently tied for seventh place with one hole remaining in his first round.
Newcomer Jared du Toit saw his first action as a Sun Devil carding a 3-over 73. The University of Vanderbilt transfer is currently tied for 33rd.
