TEMPE, Ariz. – The Arizona State women’s basketball team’s contest vs. Florida State on Mon., Dec. 21 in Tempe will be televised live to a national audience by ESPNU.
The game between the Sun Devils and Seminoles, which will tip off at 3 p.m. MT, will be a rematch of last season’s NCAA Sweet 16 matchup in Greensboro, North Carolina, which the Seminoles won 66-65.
It will be the fifth all-time meeting between ASU and Florida State. The Sun Devils were victorious in the first two meetings, defeating the Seminoles 85-70 in the 1983-84 season opener and again 63-58 in the second round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament in Duluth, Ga. The Seminoles won the most recent meetings, defeating ASU 65-55 in the championship game of the 2010 Junkanoo Jam played in the Bahamas and the aforementioned regional semifinal last season.
The ASU-Florida State game will be the first of two appearances the Sun Devils will make on an ESPN network during the regular season. ASU’s game at Oregon State on Feb. 1 will air on ESPN2 at 8 p.m. PT/9 p.m. MT.
Additional Pac-12 women’s basketball television selections on the Pac-12 Networks will be announced later this month.
The Sun Devils return 10 players, including four starters – senior guards Katie Hempen and Elisha Davis and junior posts Sophie Brunner and Kelsey Moos – from last year’s team that finished with 29 wins (second-highest total in team history) and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. Brunner (Pan American Games – silver medal) and Hempen (World University Games – gold medal) both earned medals in July while competing for USA Basketball. Also earning a medal was junior post Quinn Dornstauder (Canada), who brought back a silver medal from the World University Games.
