OlYMPIA FIELDS, ILL. -- 23 holes later Sun Devil senior Jon Rahm remains in the hunt at the 115th United States Amateur Championship at Olympia Fields Country Club, advancing to the Round of 32.

Rahm’s climb to 32 began early in the day, as the World No. 1 Amateur competed in an 18-for-10, 2-hole playoff, for a spot in the Round of 64. A par-birdie effort was enough to propel the rising senior into the Round of 64, with Rahm earning the #60-seed and a matchup with University of Arizona swinger and #5-seed George Cunningham. After winning the first three holes, Rahm saw Cunningham fight back tying the match at the 13th, with the two golfers halving the next seven. Rahm edged out Cunningham on the 21st posting a birdie, with Cunningham conceding the hole after hitting his tee shot into a water hazard.

Rahm will take on the #28 seed Cameron Young in the second round of match play on Thursday 6 a.m. MST. The Barrika Spain Native has the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of three former Sun Devil U.S. Amateur Champions including Jeff Quinney (2000), Phil Mickelson (1990), and Billy Mayfair (1987).

The U.S. Amateur continues on Thursday with the playing of the second and third rounds of match play, followed by the quarterfinals on Friday. The Semifinal match is set for Saturday with the 36-hole championship match to be played Sunday.

Coverage will remain on FOX Sports 1 through Friday (12-3 p.m), with the Semifinals Match on Saturday, August 22nd and Finals Match on Sunday, August 23rd on FOX.
