TEMPE – Arizona State University seniors Amber Freeman and Elizabeth Caporuscio were each named to the Pac-12 Softball All-Academic First Team as part of seven Sun Devils that were recognized overall, as announced by Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott on Thursday afternoon.
Freeman was named the Pac-12 Softball Scholar-Athlete of the year earlier this week and the Sun Devils continued to tack on to their postseason award haul with Thursday’s conference All-Academic team announcement.
Freeman earned First-Team honors for the first time in her career – as did Caporuscio – and each made their third consecutive appearance on the All-Academic teams with the selections.
Freeman was also selected as a Capital One Academic First-Team All-American a couple of weeks ago in addition to her All-American selection from the NFCA for her efforts on the field.
The senior slugger finished her career with a 3.37 GPA and a B.S. in health sciences (Healthy Lifestyles Coaching) and minoring in family and human development.
Caporuscio wrapped up her time at ASU with a 3.38 GPA in earth and environmental studies.
ASU’s two first-team All-Academic selections tied Washington and Oregon for the most in the conference.
In addition to the two first team selections, ASU earned honorable mention nods in the form of junior outfielder Allie Butterfield, sophomore catcher Sashel Palacios, junior outfielder Jennifer Soria, junior outfielder Abby Spiel and senior third baseman Haley Steele.
ASU has had 17 Pac-12 All-Academic selections over the past two years after having just four selections in the 2013 season.
