Hilton Head, S.C.—Arizona State’s Noemi Jimenez tied for fifth at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate Sunday afternoon at the par-71, 6,142-yard Long Cove Club. This marks the senior’s third top-10 finish of the season.
Defending champion No. 6 Duke captured the title once again. The Blue Devils shot a 6-over 858, finishing nine strokes ahead of No. 3 Southern California and No. 8 LSU, both of which tied for second. Rounding out the top five are No. 16 Tennessee in fourth, and No. 2 South Carolina and No. 12 Wake Forest tied for fifth. The Sun Devils finished in 13th place with a tournament total of 55-over 907 (298-308-301).
On the individual side, it was neck-and-neck between Sagstrom and Maguire down the home stretch, with Sagstrom in first and Maguire one stroke back. Maguire birdied 18 to close the gap and force the playoff. Maguire then birdied the first playoff hole to defeat Sagstrom.
After struggling in the second round, the Sun Devils rebounded to improve their third-round score by seven strokes. Sophomore Monica Vaughn, who tied for 44th with a 14-over 227, carded the squad’s most birdies (3) on the day.
Next up, the Sun Devils have a quick turnaround as they compete in the 2015 Clover Cup next weekend. The tournament, to be held Mar. 12-15, will be played at the Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz. Live scoring is available via birdiefire.com.
