EUGENE, Ore. – The seventh-ranked Sun Devils were unable to overcome an early deficit and fell in the series finale to No. 15 Oregon, 5-1, on Sunday at PK Park in Eugene, Ore.
The Ducks (15-8, 2-4) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning and the teams traded runs in the fifth before UO added one in the eighth to end the Sun Devils’ (15-7, 4-2) five-game winning streak.
Arizona State notched six hits, including two from right fielder Trever Allen, who extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a single and a double. Right-handed reliever Hever Bueno allowed one run on three hits and struck out three in three innings and left-hander Eli Lingos struck out two in a pair of scoreless innings.
Starting left-hander Brett Lilek (1-2) exited the game with one out in the bottom of the second after he suffered an injury making a throw following a fielding error at third base. Right-hander Darin Gillies took over with runners on second and third, and the Ducks followed with a walk, a sacrifice fly and a two-run triple to take a 3-0 advantage.
The two teams each scored a run in the fifth inning before a 22-minute rain delay halted action in the top of the sixth. Third baseman David Greer singled in the top of the fifth and scored two batters later on a sacrifice fly to right field by center fielder Johnny Sewald to cut the Devils’ deficit to a pair, 1-3. UO countered in the bottom of the frame with a leadoff single by center fielder Scott Heineman and a two-out double by designated hitter Josh Graham to extend their lead back to three, 4-1.
Right-hander David Graybill made his first career pitching appearance for the Devils in the bottom of the eighth. UO added a run in the frame on a leadoff single, a hit batter and a fielding error on a sacrifice bunt.
UO starting left hander Cole Irvin (1-1) scattered four hits and allowed one run in 5 2/3 innings to earn the win. Lilek was responsible for two runs in the second inning to take his second loss of the season.

Andrew Shaps made his first career appearance in center fielder in the eighth inning and Zach Cerbo made his first career appearance in left field in the fifth inning…right-hander Eric Melbostad threw 2/3 innings in the bottom of the eighth.
