SALT LAKE CITY, Utah. – The No. 24 Arizona State women’s tennis team swept Utah this afternoon, 7-0, to start Pac-12 play. The Sun Devils improve their season to 9-2 (1-0) against the Utes.

“It’s never easy to get a Pac-12 road win, so we are certainly pleased to the “W” today,” said ASU head coach Sheila McInerney. “I thought we came out and played well and aggressively in the doubles which gave us momentum moving forward.”

During doubles, the No. 72 pair, Joanna Smith and Kassidy Jump defeated Utah’s Sarah Ritcher and Jena Cheng, 8-2. Partners Ebony Panoho and Alexandra Osborne also downed their opponents, 8-4.

“The singles matches were all pretty tough but we competed well throughout the lineup,” said head coach Sheila McInerney.

No. 26 Desirae Krawczyk dominated the day by defeating No. 53 Tereza Bekerova in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. Panoho also had a dominated day by downing her opponent, 6-2, 6-0. The score was no indicator of the competition today as four matches ended from tiebreakers. Junior Stephanie Vlad defeated her opponent in a ten-point tiebreaker, 7-6, 6-3, (10-6), for the hard earned point. Smith battled to defeat her opponent in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

Up next, the Sun Devils will travel to play No. 47 Colorado at Boulder, Colo. on Sunday, Mar. 15 at 9 a.m. MST.

Next weekend, the Sun Devils will be back in Tempe for two matches against No. 21 Pepperdine on Thursday, Mar. 19 at 1:30 p.m. MT and No. 60 San Jose State on Friday, Mar. 20 at 11 a.m. MT before making a quick trip to Pullman, Wash. to take on Washington State on Sunday, Mar. 22 at 11 a.m. PT/ Noon MT.
