ALBANY, N.Y.—The Arizona State wrestling team split its duals at the Journeymen Tussle on Saturday, defeating Binghamton, 23-15, before falling to No. 3/4 Ohio State, 30-10.
ASU is now 2-1 on the year in duals, while Binghamton sits at 0-1 and Ohio State finished the weekend at 3-0.
Junior Ray Waters led the Sun Devils with an overtime takedown of Ohio State’s Mark Martin, 7-5, while senior Preston McCalmon picked up a 5-0 decision over Blake Riley-Hawkins, and sophomore Jacen Peterson picked up a 10-1 major decision over Justin Kresevic in the loss.
In the win over Binghamton, ASU picked up wins in six weight classes, including redshirt junior Josh DaSilveira’s pin in just 31 seconds at 197-pounds.
With four-consecutive wins in the dual, redshirt senior Joel Smith picked up an 11-7 win over Zupan, while sophomore Mech Spraggins picked up a 13-8 decision win at 141 pounds. At 149-pounds, Matt Kraus picked up a 12-1 major decision over Tighe while sophomore Oliver Pierce defeated Deprez in a 4-1 decision.
Up next, the Sun Devils will open the 2014-15 home slate on Friday, Nov. 21, hosting Utah Valley at 7 p.m. MT at Wells Fargo Arena.
