MALIBU, Calif. -- The No. 25 Arizona State Sun Devils (6-2; Pac-12 0-0) women's tennis team was upset by the No. 39 Pepperdine Waves by a score of 6-1 on Saturday afternoon in Malibu, Calif.
"It was a disappointing loss today, but much credit needs to be given to Pepperdine as I felt they really played well," ASU head coach Sheila McInerney said.
Although the Sun Devils won court one in doubles play, with Desirae Krawczyk and Kassidy Jump defeating Lorraine Guillermo and Christine Maddox by a score of 8-4, Pepperdine captured victory on courts two and three winning 8-1 and 8-4 respectively.
In singles play, the only Sun Devil able to capture a win was Desirae Krawczyk competing on court number two. Krawczyk took Matea Cutura to three sets, pulling out on top by a score of 2-6, 6-0, 10-6.
"Pepperdine was definitely more aggressive than we were, and they were the better team today," McInerney said.
At the time Krawczyk won, the match score was 2-1 in favor of the home squad. Pepperdine won out the rest of the singles matches to finish the day, with multiple matches going to three sets.
The Sun Devils will take on the Rebels of UNLV tomorrow afternoon in Malibu, Calif. at 11 a.m. PST
"We have to put this loss behind us and get ready to battle tomorrow against UNLV," McInerney said.
