The Arizona State men's golf team is tied for 12th-place after one round of the Amer Ari Invitational from the Walkoloa Beach Resort in Hawaii. The Sun Devils shot a round over three-over par 291 and trail the tied leader duo of TCU and UCLA who sit at 11-under par.
Mathias Schjoelberg has led the way for ASU through the first 18 holes as he shot a two-under par 70. He sits tied for 14th-place with eight other golfers. He made seven birdies on the day, including three of the four holes from holes three to six. He trails leader Daniel Jennevret of TCU by only three strokes.
A pair of Sun Devil freshman is tied at one-over par, as Jon Rahm Rodriguez and Max Rottluff sit in 51st-place heading into Thursday's second round. Rottluff is coming off a third-place finish at the Arizona Intercollegiate last week.
Another freshman, Alberto Sanchez, is tied for 78th at three-over par.
