ASU Wrestling Falls to Iowa State, 23-18

Feb. 1, 2013

AMES, Iowa – The Arizona State University wrestling team dropped its fifth consecutive dual of the season on Friday, falling to Iowa State by a final score of 23-18 in Ames, Iowa.

The Sun Devils (7-10, 2-1 Pac-12) got off to a decent start, scoring decision victories from Matt Kraus and Joel Smith at 141 and 157 to take an early 6-3 lead.

A fall by Ray Waters to ISU’s #18 Michael Moreno at 165 pounds would set the tone for the rest of the match however, as the Cyclones took a 9-6 (6-3, 1-1 Big 12) lead at that point and never relinquished it.

Jake Meredith dropped a 9-1 major decision to #8 Kyven Gadson at 197 pounds and Ryak Finch pinned Dalton Miller in the 125-pound matchup to seal the deal.

ASU returns to action next Saturday, Feb. 9 in a Pac-12 matchup against Oregon State in Corvallis, Ore.
