ATHENS, Ga.—The Arizona State women’s tennis team fell to the 24th-ranked Clemson Tigers, 4-0, Friday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.

Clemson started off the match earning the doubles points with victories in the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. The No. 1 duo of senior Michelle Brycki and freshman Joanna Smith battled until the very end, but lost the match by a close margin of 8-6. 

In singles play, No. 15 Jacqueline Cako took the first set over Clemson’s Keri Wong, 6-3, while freshman Leighann Sahagun took her first set 6-1 before the match was called in both players’ second set. Clemson took victories in the No. 4, No. 6 and No. 3 positions to seal the victory.

The Sun Devils NCAA appearance marks the 25th-consecutive NCAA appearance for head coach Sheila McInerney and is the longest postseason streak in school history.

Following the NCAA Women’s Tennis Team Championships, Cako will compete in the NCAA Singles Championships, May 23-28, also in Athens, Ga. The sophomore was named a top-16 seed for the tournament, earning All-American honors for the second-straight season.
