State College, Pa. – The fourth-ranked Arizona State women’s golf team sits in a tie for the 13th place after the first round of the 2012 NCAA East Regional in State College, Pa. The Sun Devils shot a round-one total of 15-over 303, 15 strokes off first-day leader South Carolina.

Individually, senior Giulia Molinaro and sophomore Justine Lee lead the Sun Devils, each shooting a 2-over 74 on Thursday to tie for 24th. Sophomore Daniela Ordonez is tied for 59th after shooting a 77 in the first round. Freshman Noemi Jimenez and sophomore Laura Blanco each shot a 78 on the first day to sit in a tie for 72nd.

The second round of the NCAA East Regional continues tomorrow from the Penn State Blue Course, with the Sun Devils teeing off at 12:56 with Alabama and Duke.

The top eight teams and two individuals from each region will advance to the NCAA Championships held at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn., May 22-25. Arizona State currently holds the nation’s longest postseason streak with 20-straight NCAA appearances.
