– The No. 4 Arizona State softball team blanked the No. 16 Stanford Cardinal in a 5-0 win on Saturday night at Farrington Stadium. It was the eighth-consecutive sellout crowd this season for the Sun Devils.
Elizabeth Caporuscio went 3-for-4 on the night with 3 RBI and one home run, her 13th of the year. Senior pitcher Hillary Bach is now 18-0 on the season after the win, allowing only one hit on the night for the second time this year. Cardinal pitcher Nyree White took the loss for a 5-6 record.
Stanford fell to 32-15 and 6-11 Pac-12, while ASU continues its three-game win streak moving to 38-5, 10-2 in the Pac-12.
ASU struck in the first, starting with a single from Caporuscio that knocked in Alix Johnson. Haley Steele loaded the bases before Amber Freeman’s sacrifice fly brought home the second run of the inning for a 2-0 score.
The Devils tacked on to the lead in the second, as a sacrifice groundout from Katelyn Boyd plated Talor Haro. Johnson saw her second run of the evening, coming around on another Caporuscio hit before the end of the inning, with ASU up 4-0.
Caporuscio notched her 13th jimmy jack of the year in the bottom of the fifth, launching one past the right center field wall. Her 13 homers are second on the team this season behind Boyd’s 16.
