MALIBU, Calif. -
After taking to the road for the first weekend this season, the No. 21 Arizona State Sun Devils fell to No. 30 Pepperdine 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif.
In doubles play that lasted over an hour and a half, ASU nearly missed securing the first point of the afternoon loosing 2-1 in three close events. Both the number one and two spots went to a tiebreaker, in which the Devils fell.
The pairing of Sianna Simmons and Leighann Sahagun defeated Ale Granillo and Megan Moore of Pepperdine and was the first to finish, but both the number one and two spots including nationally ranked Jacqueline Cako of ASU went to a tiebreaker, in which Arizona State fell.
In singles only Jacquleline Cako and Joanna Smith were able to earn team points for ASU in the number one and five spots respectively.
Arizona State drops to 6-2 overall, and will face Sacramento State this Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at the Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe, Ariz.
