LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Arizona State swimming team started out strong at this year's Arena Invitational in Long Beach, Calif. After one day of competition, the women are ranked third with 243 points, behind UC Berkeley and San Diego State. The men are ranked seventh in their field at 146.5 points.

Junior Tristin Baxter placed first in the 500 free with a time of 4:41.79. She beat her personal record and her current ASU second-place record, which was previously 4:43.23. Senior Cassie Morrice came in second in the race at 4:42.76.

Senior Shannon Landgrebe notched second place in the 50 free, swimming a time of 22.87. The team of Taylor Wohrley, Tory Houston, Caroline Kuczynski and Landgrebe also came in second in the 400 medley relay, clocking in at 3:39.15. 

For the men, the relay team of Herbie Behm, Ryan Dignan, David Adalsteinsson and Alex Coci finished seventh in the 200 free relay. Sophomore Zac Dalby and junior Coci placed 10th and 16th respectively in the 200 IM, and junior Behm came in at a tie for 13th in the 50 free.
