The Sun Devil soccer team fell at San Diego State Sunday 2-0. Arizona State will look for a better result when it travels to Flagstaff next week for its only game this month in the state of Arizona when it takes on Northern Arizona at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 24.

SDSU 2, ASU 0 Box Score (Aug. 19, 2012)

Despite being outshot by a margin of 6-1 and San Diego State having all three corner kicks that were taken in the first half Arizona State was able to keep things scoreless through the first half. Shots were more even in the second half with SDSU just having one more shot than ASU (7-6), but the Aztecs were the only one that was able to score.

The first goal came just a couple minutes into the second half when Kelsey Booth was able to score on a shot she took from six yards out. Less than seven minutes later Booth got things started when she made a pass to Sarah Halverson who found Haley Locker on the near post who was able to score and give the Aztecs a 2-0 cushion.

While more than half of Arizona State's shots were on goal as opposed to San Diego State only having three of its 13 shots go on goal Rachel Boaz was strong in goal making four saves and picking up her second shutout of the year.

"We were outplayed. They were the better team and they are a good team they, return 10 starters so they are pretty far along" noted Sun Devil head coach Kevin Boyd. "We did do some things better today than we did Friday, but we were playing a better opponent today than on Friday. Today's team was a good solid team, so we had to be better and in those areas we felt short. So will try and take another step forward this coming Friday and see if we can't get what were doing in practice to show up on the game film."

San Diego State has been picked to finish second in the Mountain West Conference this year and also received two first place votes in the conference poll. ASU now has a 4-3-1 record against the Aztecs.

INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR
Among the incoming freshmen this year are Nina Brueggemann from Pinneberg, Germany and Christina Schedel who is from Rosenheim, Germany. Brueggemann is a member of the German National Team.
