• Named the third coach in the history of the ASU women’s soccer program on March 30, 2007, Kevin Boyd is Sun Devil Soccer’s all-time leader in career wins (90 - 10 seasons).
• Boyd has led the Sun Devil soccer program to the NCAA Tournament four times (2009, 2010, 2012, 2014).
• In 2015 ASU had its best start since 2000 (4-0) and closed the season with five wins in their final six games, including road wins at No. 15 Washington and No. 23 Arizona. The team also set a program record with 15 players named to the Pac-12’s All-Academic Team.
• In 2014, Boyd led ASU to its most wins (12) and best run in the NCAA Tournament since 2003. During the season the Sun Devils put together their longest winning streak (six games) since 2002 and their longest unbeaten streak (nine games) since 2000. The unbeaten streak included a 2-1 upset of then-No. 6 and eventual College Cup participant Texas A&M and a 1-1 tie vs. then-unbeaten, top-ranked and defending national champion UCLA.
• In January of 2016, Sun Devil soccer players Cali Farquharson (First-Team All-Pac-12/First-Team All-Region forward and No. 2 all-time at ASU in goals and points) and McKenzie Berryhill (First-Team All-Pac-12/First-Team All-Region defender) were both selected in the NWSL Draft making ASU one of seven college programs with more than one player drafted by NWSL teams. Three other players from the 2015 class – Tommi Goodman, Mackenzie Semerad and Sara Tosti – signed professional contracts with Krokom-Dvarsatts 55 IF (KD 55) in Sweden.
• Since 2007 (Boyd’s first season at ASU) the Sun Devil soccer program leads the Pac-12 in the number of All-Academic first-team awards (25) and the number of first- and second-team awards (39). ASU has had 10 or more players named to the league’s All-Academic teams in all nine of Boyd’s seasons as head coach. A program record 15 student-athletes earned Pac-12 All-Academic recognition in 2015. It broke the previous program record of 14 set by the 2011 squad. ASU’s five combined first- (2) and second-team (3) awards were the most of any school in the conference in 2015.
• The 2013 season was highlighted by one of the biggest wins in program history when the Sun Devils went to Stanford on Oct. 6, 2013 and upset the second-ranked and unbeaten Cardinal, 1-0. The win snapped Stanford’s 73-game unbeaten streak in home games and its 44-match winning streak in conference games.
• In 2012, Boyd oversaw the development of a relatively young team (nearly half the team was comprised of newcomers) that went from starting the season 1-4-1 to ending it with the program’s third NCAA Tournament appearance in four seasons. The Sun Devils clinched their NCAA Tournament berth by going unbeaten in the season’s final five games (4-0-1).
• The 2012 team finished tied for fourth in the Pac-12, ASU’s best finish in league play since 2004.
• In 2010, Boyd guided the Sun Devils to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season, only the second time in school history that ASU made back-to-back NCAA appearances.
• In 2009, his third season on the job, Boyd led ASU to its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2003. Along the way, the Sun Devils broke into the NSCAA Top 25 for the first time since the 2004 preseason.
• In 2008 the Sun Devils nearly qualified for the NCAA Tournament despite losing six players to season ending injuries. ASU’s 8-8-4 record included a win against seventh-ranked and defending national champion USC, ASU’s first win over a Top-10 squad since 2001. In 2008 the Sun Devils also defeated No. 20 UC Santa Barbara and recorded ties at seventh-ranked Texas and at No. 22 California.
• In 2007, Boyd’s first season at ASU, the Sun Devils produced a double-digit win total (10-9-1) for the first time since 2003.
• Sun Devil Soccer student-athletes have combined for 10 Academic All-America awards since 2007, most recently Cali Farquharson (NSCAA Second-Team Scholar All-America) in 2014 and Jasmine Roth (Second-Team CoSIDA Academic All-American) and Kaitlyn Pavlovich (Third-Team CoSIDA Academic All-American) in 2013. Roth was also named the Pac-12’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2013.
• In June 2012, Sun Devil Soccer was among three ASU teams recognized by the NCAA for recording an Academic Progress Rate (APR) in the top 10 percent nationally.
• Prior to coming to Arizona State spent 10 seasons as the head coach at California where he complied 124-63-20 record and led the Golden Bears to the NCAA Tournament eight times.
• Under Boyd the Golden Bears produced 28 first or second-team All-Pac-10 Conference selections while also garnering 21 selections to the Academic All-Pac-10 first or second teams. Additionally, Boyd’s teams carried a stellar overall GPA, leading all Cal teams during the 2003-04 season (3.34).
• In his final season at California he led the Golden Bears to the third round, their deepest run in the tournament in nearly 20 years.
• Outside of his duties with the Cal program, Boyd also worked with several club teams in the Bay Area. In 2002, he led the U18 Marin Rockers to the Cal North state title and also worked with the U17 Cal North state team. Boyd also has held several positions with the Region IV Olympic Development program, including: regional team coach (1992-00), U15 head coach (1998-00), U16 assistant coach (1996), U17 assistant coach (1993-95) and staff coach (1992-93).
