#5 Arizona State 16, CSU Bakersfield 7
For the third time in as many weeks, the Sun Devils squared off against CSU Bakersfield and Saturday’s result was no different than the first two contests with ASU handily defeating the Roadrunners, 16-7.
CSUB kept things interesting early, knotting the game at three with a late goal in the first quarter to make it the first time this season that ASU has not led heading into a break.
ASU was able to open things up a bit in the second thanks to two goals apiece from Alicia Brightwell and Shannon Haas to take a 7-4 lead into the break.
The Sun Devils turned on the firepower in the second half though, outscoring CSUB 9-3 over the final two quarters on the heels of a season-high four goals from senior Annabelle Carter to cruise to the 16-7 win.
Ianeta Hutchinson was solid in the goal again, posting seven saves to the seven goals allowed. Brightwell added three assists on the match for six points in the contest while Kelsey White had a season-high four assists.
In three contests this year, ASU has outscored the Roadrunners by a total of 45-19. The victory also gave head coach Todd Clapper his 100th victory as head coach of the Arizona State program.
