The Arizona State University offense sputtered a bit for seemingly the first time this season, but thanks to a solid defensive effort, ASU was able to down the Gauchos for the second time this season by a score of 7-5.
For the second time in as many games and the second time on the season, ASU found themselves all tied up after one quarter with one goal apiece. ASU couldn’t find their offensive stroke in the second either but managed one more goal than UCSB to take a 3-2 lead into the break.
The balls started finding their marks in the third as ASU pulled out to a 7-3 advantage in outscoring the Gauchos 4-1 in the frame. Alicia Brightwell, Anna Kertes, Mariam Salloum and Kelsey White all found the back on the net in the third and it looked like the Sun Devils might be able to open it up.
That wasn’t to be though as ASU did not score in the fourth at all, and had to hold on as UCSB posted two goals to make it interesting with 4:49 left but both teams remained scoreless for the remainder of the game, leading to the final score.
Brightwell and White each had two goals to lead the Sun Devils as the team improved to its best start in program history at 10-0.
