TEMPE, AZ--The Gym Devils defeated the Brown Bears 191.325 to 186.875 in their first home meet of the season. The Gym Devils are now 1-1 in the 2011 season.
On vault in the first rotation, Mary Atkinson led the Gym Devils hitting a season-high of 9.825. Freshman Sammie Seaman nailed her vault to score a 9.775. Callie Price posted a 9.625, taking a small step back on her landing. Beaté Jones hopped forward on her landing tallying a 9.500. Carly McMahon scored a 9.400 after taking a giant step forward. Amelia Rew stumbled on her landing scoring a 9.025. The Gym Devils had a team score of 48.125 on vault while the Bears tallied a 46.324 on bars in the first rotation.
The Gym Devils hit a team bar score of 48.275, holding their lead in the competition. Freshman Emily Warfield and Sophomore Tina Salavec both posted career-scores of 9.825. Stephanie Hangartner hit a 9.725. Jones was loose on her blind change scoring a 9.525. Nickie Johnson took several steps on her landing scoring a 9.375. Atkinson fell on her ginger scoring a 9.075.
On beam, Madison Snowden led the team hitting her skills to post a season-high of 9.750. Kelly Reilly scored a 9.550 in her beam debut of this season. Atkinson fell scoring a 9.075. Seaman fell tallying a 9.000. Salavec fell on her tourjette scoring a 8.825. Jones fell on her front tuck posting a 8.600. The Gym Devils struggled with falls but were able to keep the lead after the third rotation posting a team score of 46.200.
In the final rotation, the Gym Devils hit five for five routines tallying a team score of 48.725. Snowden posted a career-high score of 9.900 after a crowd-pleasing performance. Johnson hit a season-high of 9.800 after a solid performance. Senior Brittany Schuett nailed her routine tying her season-high of 9.775. Salavec hit her floor season debut scoring a 9.625. Amanda Davies also scored a 9.625 after hitting her passes. Jones scored a 9.550 in her floor season debut.
The Sun Devils travel to Salt Lake City, Utah next week to compete against the No. 4 Utah Utes.
