Arizona State Notes:
Sun Devils Vs. Lumberjacks: Arizona State is now 20-14-4 all-time against Northern Arizona. This is only the fourth meeting between the teams since 2003 as the series was put on hold from 1951 to 2002.
A Real Winner: Head coach Dennis Erickson improved to 7-0 all-time against Northern Arizona and is now 2-0 vs. the Lumberjacks with ASU. His overall record now stands at 169-83-1.
Another Miles-tone: Sophomore running back Jamal Miles recorded his first career receiving touchdown after being on the other end of a six-yard pass midway through the first quarter.
Welcome Back: Junior wide receiver Gerell Robinson saw his first action of the season with 4:18 left in the first quarter. He missed the first game of the season due to injury.
Threet's Career Night: Junior quarterback Steven Threet set career highs in attempts, completions, passing yards and touchdowns. He went 33-of-49 for 391 yards and 3 touchdowns. His previous career best of 18-of-35 for 250 yards came in a 45-20 loss to Illinois on Oct. 4, 2008.
Their Time To Shine: Redshirt freshman Evan Finkenberg, at right guard, and redshirt junior Bo Moos, at defensive tackle, made their first career starts.
Coming Out Party: Redshirt junior wide receiver T.J. Simpson had three catches for 79 yards. Coming into the game, he had seven catches for 106 yards in his first two seasons with ASU.
Back Where He Belongs: Senior wide receiver Kerry Taylor caught a 17-yd touchdown reception near the beginning of the second quarter, the first time he's found the endzone since Nov. 15, 2008 against Washington State.
Start Of Something Good: Redshirt sophomore Deveron Carr grabbed his first career interception at the 12-minute minute mark of the second quarter. ASU now has four picks on the season.
Catching On: Taylor matched his career high in receptions with six. He finished the game with 72 yards and a touchdown.
A Willie Good Game: Junior Mike Willie, a transfer from Cerritos Community College, collected his first touchdown as a Sun Devil on a 6-yd catch with just over 12 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Willie finished the game with eight catches for 114 yards.
Salute To The Troops: The Guest Sparky for the game was Rich Woerth, a member of the Tempe Fire Department for over 20 years and current Fire Captain. Following 9/11, the Scottsdale native and alumnus of Saguaro High School served at Ground Zero for 10 days assisting families of victims with financial assistance, housing and funeral arrangements. A member of the Lumberjacks football team from 1981 to 1983, Woerth graduated from NAU with a degree in Police Science/Criminal Justice Studies. In addition to firefighting, he is an active community member, serving on the Scottsdale Human Relations Commission and contributing to various clubs and organizations across the valley. He is also Vice President of United Phoenix Firefighters Local 493 and President of the Tempe Charter.
