TEMPE – The first of two days of competition at the Jim Click Multis came to a close in Tucson, Ariz., on Thursday afternoon with five members of the Arizona State University track and field program on hand to compete as two women took part in the heptathlon and three men competed in the decathlon. Through the first day, Samantha Henderson leads the ASU women in fourth place overall while Austin Prince is the top Sun Devil male at ninth overall.

In the women’s heptathlon, Henderson is the top collegiate entry in fourth place with 3,025 points through four of seven events while rookie Keia Pinnick has scored 2,982 points to stand fifth overall. The three women ahead of the Sun Devil duo are all post-collegiate competitors, including the overall leader Bettie Wade, who has scored 3,624.

Henderson, a two-time third-place finisher at the NJCAA Outdoor Championships before coming to ASU, opened the day with 876 points in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.74 before adding 666 points in the high jump with a clearance of 1.54m (5-00.50). She was second in the shot put with a heave of 12.19m (40-00.00) for another 674 points before closing the first day with 809 points earned in the 200m dash with a time of 25.86.

Pinnick opened her day with 886 points in the 100m hurdles by running 14.67 in the event before adding 736 points with a clearance of 1.60m (5-03.00) in the high jump. Following 511 points in the shot put with a toss of 9.72m (31-10.75), Pinnick closed out her first day with 849 points in the 200m dash with a time of 25.42. Both women will compete in three more events on Friday, including the long jump, the javelin and the 800m run.

In the men’s 10 event decathlon, Prince stands ninth overall through five evens with 3,329 points while Jamie Sandys is 10th (3,319) and Jeremy Marcinko 13th (3,081). Kansas State’s Mantas Silkauskas currently leads the competition with a total of 3,941 points.

Prince opened the day with 730 points in the 100m dash after running 11.61 before adding 755 points with a leap of 6.75m in the long jump. After scoring 530 points in the shot put with a toss of 10.74m (35-03.00) and then 610 points in the high jump with a clearance of 1.78m (5-10.00), Prince closed out the first day with a time of 52.47 in the 400m dash to collect another 704 points.

Sandys’ marks were very consistent on the day as he scored 600-point range in each event. He opened with 697 points in the 100m dash with a time of 11.77 and then added 695 points by jumping 6.49m in the long jump. He collected another 605 points in the shot put with a toss of 11.98m (39-03.75) and another 636 points in the high jump with a clearance of 1.81m (5-11.25). His final point haul of the day was 686 points for running 52.90 in the 400m.

Marcinko, like Sandys, opened the day with a time of 11.77 in the 100m dash for 697 points and followed that with 578 points in the long jump with a mark of 5.96m and 545 points in the shot put with a toss of 10.99m (36-00.75). He followed that with a clearance of 1.72m (5-07.75) in the high jump for 560 points before adding 701 points in the 400m dash with a time of 52.54m. All three men will have five more events on Friday, including the 110m hurdles, the discus, the javelin, the pole vault and the 1,500m run.

The Click meet concludes for the Sun Devils on Friday. Next up for the rest of the program will be the 31st Sun Angel Track Classic that will take place April 9-10 at Sun Angel Stadium in Tempe.
