Box Score

TEMPE, Ariz. - The fifth-ranked Sun Devil Softball team returned to form on Friday afternoon with some two-out lightning as they scored 11 of their 28 runs on the day with two outs on the board as they topped Portland State 14-0 and Auburn 14-2, both in five innings, to close out Day Two of the Kajikawa Classic. Hillary Bach collected a one-hit complete game shutout against the Vikings to go 2-0 on the season while Megan Elliott won the nightcap to push her record to 1-1 as ASU finishes Day Two with a 3-1 overall record.

Against the Vikings, ASU brought their A game as the offense pummeled PSU for 13 hits, seven for extra bases, with three consecutive doubles in the first inning alone as well as home runs from Katie Crabb and Ashley Muenz to give hurler Hillary Bach some breathing room.

Bach didn’t seem to need it though as she went out to one-hit the Vikings, with two strikeouts as she went three complete innings before giving up a squib hit to break up the no-no. Bach buckled down to finish out the game though as she collected her second consecutive win and shutout of the season.

In the nightcap against Auburn, Megan Elliott took to the circle for the Sun Devils, and she didn’t disappoint, going the complete game giving up only five hits and two runs while striking out six and getting the job done in only 74 pitches to Auburn’s 127.

The offense came out ready to rock again as they littered the scoreboard with ten hits for 14 runs with three home runs, one apiece from Katelyn Boyd, Annie Lockwood and Christina Zambrana as ASU rolled to their third win of the season, all by run rules.

The Kajikawa Classic rolls on tomorrow as Day Three kicks off in Tempe with the Sun Devils again taking the limelight in the nightcap as they face Texas A&M tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Farrington Stadium in their first face-off since the Championship Series for the 2008 NCAA title at the WCWS.
