Mary Atkinson won the all-around competition with a 39.225 in the Arizona State women's gymnastics team's home meet against the Oregon State Beavers. The Gym Devils fell to the Beavers 194.650-196.925.
Atkinson led the Gym Devils on vault in the first rotation scoring a 9.850 tying for third place in the competition. Callie Price nailed her vault scoring a solid 9.800. Kaitlynn Bormann posted a 9.775 while Amelia Rew tallied a 9.725. Stephanie Hangartner's first score of her all-around performance was a 9.575. The Gym Devils posted a vault score of 48.775, falling behind the Beavers who posted a 49. 275 in their first rotation on bars.
On bars in the second rotation, Francesca Mercurio led the team scoring a 9.750. Both Atkinson and Bormann tallied a 9.725. Nickie Johnson hit her routine posting a 9.700. Hangartner scored a 9.525 after hitting the floor on her ginger during her release series. Kahoku Palafox fell on her release leading her to score a 8.875. The beavers had a solid vault performance in the second rotation tallying a 49.225.
The Gym Devils struggled on beam in the third rotation. Atkinson and Mercurio led the Gym Devils with the score 9.750. Atkinson had a balance check on her turn while Mercurio had a few small errors including two arm swings after her series. After a wobble on her series, Palafox scored a 9.700. Bormann wobbled on her Onodi during her routine posting a 9.650. Reilly had several small wobbles throughout her performance scoring a 9.600. Hangartner posted a 9.175 after falling on her side sumi salto. The Gym Devils tallied a 48.450.
Ending the competition on floor, the Gym Devils compiled a team score of 49.00. Atkinson shined taking first place in the competition while tying her career-high score of 9.900. Johnson hit all three passes to compile a score of 9.825. Madison Snowden hit the floor full of energy performing a solid routine hitting a 9.800. Brittany Schuett scored a 9.775. Mercurio hit her floor routine with a 9.700. Hangartner posted a 9.625 after a large bounce backwards and step on her last pass of a double pike.
Next week the Gym Devils face Central-Michigan on home territory at the Wells Fargo Arena at 7:30pm.
