Final Stats

The Arizona State women's soccer team saw its rally come up short on Friday as it fell to Washington State 2-1 before a season-high 856 fans at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium. With the loss the Sun Devils are now 7-4-3 (0-3-0 Pac-10) while Washington State improved to 9-3-1 (1-0-1 Pac-10).

Neither team was able to set up a serious scoring threat over the first 30-plus minutes. A sudden turn of events would swing control of the game in Washington State's favor as the Cougars scored two goals on counter attacks in the span of just over four minutes. Senior forward Kiersten Dallstream (33rd minute) and freshman midfielder Melanie Johnston (37th minute) scored the goals for the Cougars who outshot the Sun Devils 8-2 in the first half.

As the second half progressed the Sun Devils started to show more urgency on the offensive end with each passing minute. They would finally break through in the 76th minute when freshman forward Bianca Doller took a pass from junior forward Karin Volpe and fired a shot over the goalkeeper's reach to cut Washington State's lead to 2-1.

The Sun Devils would continue to keep the pressure on over the last 14 minutes of the game, however were unable to score the equalizer that would have forced the contest into overtime.

After being outshot by six in the first half, the Sun Devils turned the tables with a plus-four advantage (7-3) in shots in the second half. Doller's three shots led ASU for the game.

ASU returns to action on Sunday when it hosts Washington at 1 p.m.
